As a journalist covering art, culture, music, museum, it’s impossible not to write about one of the most important musical event in Europe.

I’m talking about the The Eurovision Song Contest. If you don’t know it, is an international song competition organised annually by the European Broadcasting Union which features participants representing primarily European countries. And it’s one of the most important event for the musical calendar.

Huge talents from solo singers, passing to trios or bands formats from the whole Europe present their sounds. Everyone literally stops to watch the presentation.

So, I separate some highlights to you. Of course it’s a very eye catching event, with a huge stage, with incredible graphic and light effects of the scenario, but the most important is the artists! So, let’s go?

From a pop singer from Cyprus to the Russian singer talking about inclusion and the women’s empowerment.

To The black girl from Israel with amazing costumes and hair.

Or Destiny from Malta, that singed on Eurovision when she was thirteen and returns to the stage now she’s turned into eighteen.

The boy band from Portugal came with the song “Love is always my side”.

Serbian Trio Girls – melodic base with cultural references: incredible costumes

From the Uk – James Newman: great musical surrender, but with a gentrified song. Backdrops with sax and dancers playing the instrument were cool. But they weren’t enough: he got nul points  from the public and the judges.

Greece – Pop with a lot of chroma key and invisible dancers.

Spain – Dramatic pop. Costume should have accompanied, instead of total black. The scenography with the moon stole the show.

Finland – Lots of star quality to this rock n’ roll band!

Bulgaria – I was impressive with her voice and visual effect of the scenario

Lithuania – Fashionable group. Modern and androgynous costumes and beauty. Super Disco Music

Ukraine – Ethnic sounds. Electronic base, which works for night clubs. Futuristic costumes

Norway – the singer Tix came with lot of attitude and a beautiful song: “I’m a fallen angel” – a typical pop ballad

A bit of a performance by the Eurovision dancers made the stage more shaked.

Switzerland – Drama, elegance and extravagance. And many precise treble voices. He was almost winning, but after a dramatic game changer, he got the third place.

Iceland – Band with 6 genderless members, painted nails. Footprint of the ABBA with pop and choreography.

Moldavia – Pop with references to ethnic songs in some chords. Super danceable and with great bass.

Germany – Looks like a children’s musical or a sound track for a Disney’s movie.

France – One the night’s favourite. For me, a clever and contemporary reference of Edith Piaf.

Azerbaijan – Totally ethnic. Sexy costumes

Netherlands – Trio of black guys – music of social conscience, with African lyrics. With 90’s footprint and drums of African matrices

Italy – super rock and roll sung in Italian: pure irreverence and style. The great Winners!

Sweden – a black singer with beauty and androgynous costumes. Incredible voice.

The Italian group Maneskin won the public vote by an overwhelming margin, leaving early frontrunners France and Switzerland in second and third place.

I was glad to see Lots of representativeness and racial and gender inclusion in Eurovision.
